JUSTUS LIEBIG UNIVERSITY GIESSEN AND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN UNVEIL INNOVATIVE INTERNATIONAL MASTER'S PROGRAM: 'GLOBAL CHANGE: ECOSYSTEM SCIENCE AND POLICY'

The international Master's degree program, "Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy," offers a unique blend of scientific rigor, policy acumen, and adept data management, enriched by practical immersion and international exposure.

Delivered jointly by the esteemed institutions of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, situated in the heart of Germany, and University College Dublin (UCD), School of Biology and Environmental Science in Ireland, this program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities inherent in global environmental shifts. The program spans 16 months and encompasses 120 credit points, all delivered in English.

Upon completion of three semesters, graduates will be conferred a joint Master's degree (M.Sc.) from both universities, empowering them to serve as vital conduits between scientific research and policy implementation.

Program Structure:

  • Semester One (September – December): Commences at UCD in Dublin, Ireland, providing a foundational understanding of global change dynamics.
  • Work Placement (January – February): A six-week placement within a chosen company or institution facilitates hands-on learning and real-world application of acquired knowledge.
  • Semester Two (March – July): Continues at JLU in Giessen, Germany, deepening insights into ecosystem science and policy frameworks.
  • Semester Three (August – December): Involves an individual research project, undertaken within working groups at either UCD or JLU. Following the research project, students craft their Master's thesis in the form of a scientific paper.
